Unit Converter
Length, weight and temperature conversions between metric and imperial, without hunting through a conversion chart.
Three categories, one method
Length and weight conversions work by converting the input to a common base unit — meters for length, kilograms for weight — then dividing by the target unit's own size in that base. Temperature is different because its scales don't share a zero point, so Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are converted through Celsius as an intermediate step using each scale's own formula.
Common uses
- Converting a recipe or a shipping weight between kg and lb
- Reading a foreign height, distance or road sign in familiar units
- Converting a weather forecast or an oven temperature between °C and °F
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 and add 32 — for example, 20°C is (20 × 9/5) + 32 = 68°F. Select Temperature above and pick Celsius and Fahrenheit to convert automatically.
How many kilometers are in a mile?
One mile equals about 1.60934 kilometers. Select Length above, choose Miles as the source unit and Kilometers as the target, and enter your value for an exact conversion.
How do I convert pounds to kilograms?
Divide the pound value by about 2.20462 — for example, 150 lb ≈ 68.04 kg. Select Weight above to convert any amount instantly.
Why does temperature conversion work differently from length and weight?
Length and weight scales share a common zero point (0 meters is genuinely nothing), so converting between units is just multiplication. Temperature scales don't share a zero (0°C isn't "no temperature"), so converting requires each scale's own offset-and-scale formula rather than a simple multiplier.
