How this summary is built

This is an extractive summarizer: it never generates new sentences, it only selects and reorders sentences already in your text. Each sentence is scored by how many meaningful (non-filler) words it shares with the rest of the passage, then normalized by sentence length so long sentences don't win purely on word count. The highest-scoring sentences are kept, in their original order.

What this is — and isn't

  • It's a quick way to surface the sentences most representative of a passage's core content
  • It is not a language model and will not paraphrase, explain, or add anything not already in your text
  • Works best on well-structured prose (articles, reports); less reliable on dialogue or lists

Frequently asked questions

Does this summarizer use AI?

No — it's a rule-based extractive summarizer that scores and selects existing sentences from your text based on shared vocabulary. It doesn't generate new wording the way a language model would, and nothing you paste is sent to a server.

Why did the summary pick sentences that seem out of order or odd?

Sentences are scored purely on shared keyword frequency, not on meaning or narrative flow, so it can occasionally surface a sentence that reads oddly out of context. It works best on clearly structured prose like articles or reports.

How many sentences should I keep in a summary?

For a short article, 2–3 sentences usually captures the core point; for longer or more complex text, 4–6 may be needed. Use the slider to adjust and see what best represents your specific text.

Can this summarizer handle very long documents?

Yes, though extremely long documents may take slightly longer to score since every sentence is compared against the whole passage's vocabulary. There's no strict length limit — try it and adjust the sentence count as needed.
