Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) Calculator

Estimate the maturity value of an SSY account — deposits are made for the first 15 years, and the balance continues earning interest until maturity at 21 years.

SN SSY-38
Deposits can be made for 15 years from account opening; the account then earns interest (with no further deposits needed) until it matures 21 years after opening, or earlier if the account holder marries after turning 18. The rate shown is a starting point — SSY's rate is set by the government and reviewed quarterly.

How the 15 + 21 year structure works

Deposits are added and the balance compounds annually for the first 15 years; after that, no more deposits are made but the accumulated balance keeps earning interest for another 6 years until the account matures at 21 years from opening. This calculator models exactly that: deposits stop after year 15, but compounding continues through year 21.

Important note

This calculator gives an estimate for planning purposes using standard formulas and the rate you enter. Actual returns depend on market performance (for market-linked options), the scheme's official compounding rules, and rates that change over time — this is not a guarantee of returns and not financial advice. Frequently asked questions

Who can open a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account?

SSY accounts can typically be opened by a parent or legal guardian for a girl child under 10 years of age, with a maximum of two accounts per family (with some exceptions for twins/triplets) — check current eligibility rules with a bank or post office before opening one.

When does an SSY account mature?

The account matures 21 years from the date it was opened, though deposits are only required (and typically allowed) for the first 15 years — the balance continues earning interest for the remaining years without further deposits.

Can I withdraw money from SSY before maturity?

Partial withdrawal (up to 50% of the balance) is typically allowed once the girl turns 18, for education expenses, and the account can be closed early if she marries after turning 18 — otherwise it's designed to be held until the 21-year maturity.

Is the SSY interest rate fixed for the whole 21 years?

No — the rate is set by the government and reviewed quarterly, so it can change over the life of the account. This calculator uses a single rate you enter for the full projection as a simplification, since future rate changes can't be known in advance.
